What pushes a Murfreesboro price up or down
- Size and shape. Bigger areas cost less per square foot; curves and steps cost more to shape.
- Removal. Breaking out and hauling an old slab is a separate line.
- The base. On limestone ground, where rock can sit 8 to 20 inches down in Barfield soils (U.S. Department of Agriculture), building up and compacting an even base (the stone layer under the slab) can add work.
- Thickness. Cars and pickups need 4 inches; light trucks need 5 to 6 (Virginia Ready Mixed Concrete Association).
- Finish. Broom finish is cheapest; color, exposed aggregate (washed to show the small stones) and stamping cost more.
- Permits. A City right-of-way permit (for work on the City's land beside the street) for driveway widening is $50 per street, and doubles if work starts first.
- Access. Pumping or wheeling concrete to a backyard costs more than pouring from the truck.
